MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, April 19, 2023
I. CALL TO ORDER - Meeting called to order by Chair Gomes at 9:34.
ROLL CALL - In attendance: Farrah -Marie, Christina, Shana, Elena, Rachelle,
Andrew joined at 9:38, Rachelle; Excused: Evelyn, Hannah, Lisa; Ex-officio:
Jennifer, Suzanna. Quorum was met.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES for March 15, 2023 — Elana moved to approve
minutes, Rachelle seconded the motion. No Discussion. All voted in favor.
Minutes approved at 9:38.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT — No expenditures for March. Expenditures will be
made in May. County office has purchased gift cards, expenditure will occur
in May. CSW has not spend any funds for this year. Motion to approve the
treasurers report by Elena, motion seconded by Rachelle. No discussion. All
voted in favor at 9:41 am.

VI. CORRESPONDENCE — No correspondence received.
VII. REPORTS
A. Statements from the Public — no statements from the public.
B. Hawaii State CSW (HSCSW) liaison report — Jennifer Stotter shared that
Nikki Cristobal was on island yesterday. She presented to the Hawaii
County Council in Kona where resolution 74-23 was passed. Later that
night, UH Hilo hosted a presentation on the MMIWG report with about 50
people in attendance. Jennifer is putting together a list of attendees to
share. Next State CSW meeting is on 6/1, but the time has not been set
yet. There is no update on the status of the Executive Director position or
hiring process yet.
C. Family Violence Interagency Committee (FVIC) — Christina attended West
Hawaii FVIC meetings. There was a lot of discussion on homelessness in
West Hawaii and the situation with vandalism and crime, drug abuse. The
Children's Justice Center Director resigned at the end of April. HPD and
CWS are having forensic interviewers trained. Hilo has filled their forensic
interviewer position. Hilo Director will assist in keeping Kona site going.

D. Missing Murdered Native Hawaiian Women and Girls (MMNHWG) Task
Force — Report submitted to legislative as completion of phase 1. Phase 2
is being developed. Next meeting of the task force is this Thursday at
noon. Shana spoke about the meeting last night at UH Hilo and asked
questions about information at the meeting. Qualitative data collection is
currently in the works with talking to survivors and getting their stories.
Suzanna shared that theAsia Pacific institute may be able to contribute
data for the report.

B. Sub -Committee Memberships
a. Nomination and Election of Sub -Committee members
i. Jennifer Stotter was self -nominated for the research sub-
committee. Shana made the motion to add Jennifer to the
research sub-committe, Elena seconded the motion. There
was no discussion. Approved by all members.
ii. Shana asked about chairs for sub committees and how often
meetings are held. Farrah provided explanation and guide-
lines. Sub committees are required to follow same rules as
CSW for all meetings. Sub -committees can select a chair if
needed. Shana was concerned that sub -committees are not
meeting regularly and was asking for assistance on how to
proceed with the meetings and the process. Farrah provided
explanation. Go through Allen to post the meeting date for
the public. Suzanna provided more clarity on the meeting
scheduling via email.
C. Communications Sub -Committee reports
a. Status of CSW gmail account — No updates. When email comes to
Gmail account, Shana will get an alert to her email account.
b. Facebook updates - Postings are continuing. FB page followers
can share postings on the CSW page. Send information to Shana
or Farrah for posting. Jpeg would be preferred format - they will
post on FB page as received. Mahalo Christina for sending items to
committee for review. Shana shared cover photo of RBG.

c. Family Services Directory
i. Distribution log — No added logs noted. Allen stated their
supply is gone. Christina has around 125 left for upcoming in
service activities and will continue to pass them out. Possible
project rationale for more directories in May meeting. Shana
has half a full box left.
D. Outreach Sub -Committee reports
a. 2022 Year of the Mother
i. Status of the Mother Report - wrapping up report at this time.
Shana sent out preliminary report to members to review.
Shana submitting report for her capstone and will submit to
the group once completed. Kudos to team and especially
Farrah for her support and advice on report creation. Will
give it one more month to get completed and finalized. The
plan is to release it around Mother's Day in May. Please do
one more review and get feedback to Shana so report can
be finalized.
b. Teen Dating Violence
i. Distribution log — No new distribution in this month. Project
Rationale will be needed to print more. Christina distributed
in West Hawaii and will provide numbers for tracking. Only a
few left at this time. Allen says stock is depleted at OPA.
c. Real Women Essay
i. No report. Gift cards purchased but not yet distributed.
d. Community Surveys
i. Voted on last month. Purchase request of $250 approved.
Will need to do some adjustments to fiscal reports for this
expenditure. Motion to move $1000 from Travel and Confer-
ence, $1100 from Printing, $900 from Mileage and $2540
from Misc Charges to Misc. Contracts. Shana made motion,
seconded by Rachelle. No discussion, all approved at
10:37am.
ii. Shana would like to edit the survey with the research sub-
committee and update with best practice questions.
E. Research Sub -Committee reports
a. Status of Women Report
i. Will vote on at May meeting. Think about what 2023 report
will look like.

b. Equal Pay
i. Farrah will provide in Legislative report.
ii. Shana discussed grant process for car seat purchases to
give out. Allen emailed to Shana and Farrah to provide to the
organizations that the CSW would like to provide funding or
items to.
F. Legislative
a. Legislative priorities — Reminder that community can still provide
testimony by zoom to council. The CSW should also remind council
that we would like to be aware of bills or resolutions so that we can
support with testimony, especially as it relates to Native Hawaiian
women.
b. Human Trafficking - Ho'ola Napua has free curriculum available to
the community. LT is going into schools meeting with administration
and teachers for awareness.
c. Equal Pay — Farrah provided an explanation on why national equal
pay day moved from April to March which means the pay gap is
closing slightly. Will distribute literature on Equal Pay information
once it is received.
d. Hawaii Island Women's Leadership Summit - Farrah will share the
grants paperwork to Friends of the Future.
e. Missing Murdered Native Hawaiian Women and Girls (MMNHWG) -
Previously approved purchases of red dresses has not been made.
So cannot do event as discussed, red dress campaign on May 5t".
Farrah provided discussion and options for honoring this date.
X. ANNOUNCEMENTS
a. Women`s Wellness Mana Mama will be on May 19th from 12-7pm in West
Hawaii — Christina will send out flyer once it is available.
b. MMIWG conference in Albuquerque in June.
c. Denim Day 2023 is April 26. Flyer can be found on the CSW FB page.
d. Malama the Mind 5/20 at Prince Kuhio Plaza.
e. Revitalize Puna 7/8 - Rachelle will send flyer out to the committee.
