abide by all rules and regulations of the 2023 P&R Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament.
I understand that participation in this tournament may be dangerous and may result in personal injury,
including property loss, injury, and death. On behalf of my heirs and personal representative, I hereby
release the County of Hawaii, it's Parks & Recreation Department, Tournament Committee members,
sponsors and contributors from all property damage and injury, including death, which I may incur, cause
or may be attributed to me in connection with or as a result of my participation in the "2023 P&R `Ghana
Shoreline Fishing Tournament." On behalf of myself, my heirs and personal representative, I further
agree to indemnify and hold harmless each of the aforementioned from and against any loss, damages
cost, judgment, or payment of any kind or nature, made by myself, my estate, or any person or entity, in
connection with any injury, including death, or property loss, which I may suffer or incur as a result of my
participation in the "2023 P&R Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament."
* I understand and agree to the possibility of the news media filming and/or photographing my participation
in this event. I give permission to the County of Hawaii, Department of Parks & Recreation, it's agents or
employees to publish any film/photograph in their newsletters, websites, and other non -County
publications, for news and non-commercial purposes, without notifying me.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. All entrants shall be confined to fishing from the shoreline of Hawaii Island (must be accessible on foot, no
dropping off by boat).
2. Use of drones, kites/trash bags, boats or any type of floatation devices, swimming, surfboarding or kayaking
the bait, lure, and lead out is prohibited.
3. Entrants must cast his or her own pole (Men's and Women's division only).
4. There will be a 4-pole limit per person.
5. At the time of the strike, the fish must be hooked, fought, and brought to gaff by the entrant only. The
partner may assist only in removing the bell, safety rope and landing the fish (men's and women's division
only).
6. Hang -bait method is allowed if the leader line is connected directly to the reel and the bait is hung from the
tip of that pole.
7. Fish that appears to have been frozen or spoiled will be disqualified by the head judge.
8. A fish that has been mutilated or bitten by a shark will be disqualified.
9. A fish that has been entangled with another pole's line and brought up on both lines will also be disqualified.
10. This tournament is based upon, but not limited to, the rules and regulations of the "2023 P&R Ohana
Shoreline Fishing Tournament'. Anyone found to have violated these rules and regulations will be
disqualified from this tournament, and tournaments thereafter. All merchandise awards will be forfeited.
11. Minors must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or a responsible adult during the entire
tournament.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEN'S, WOMEN'S, TEEN, KEIKI, & KUPUNA
1. Open to anyone interested in straight pole or rod and reel fishing and has paid their applicable fee, signed
the release and indemnity form, and has submitted their application prior to or postmarked no later than July
21, 2023.
2. Abides by and adheres to the rules and regulations of this fishing tournament. All minors must have a
parent or legal guardian sign the release and indemnity form.
3. If we do not have your registered entry at the weigh-in, you will be disqualified. Call Shelton Kalilikane at
808-217-6074 by July 31, 2023, to verify registration.
4. Divisions: Men's (18 years old and older), Women's (18 years old and older), Teen (13-17 years old),
Keiki (5-12 years old), Kupuna (55 years old and older). Minors must be accompanied by a parent, legal
guardian, or a responsible adult during the entire tournament.
5. All entrants in a specified division are eligible to win prizes and awards in that specific division only.
6. All entrants may only win once in each place/award, except for the `Ghana Division.
7. Department of Parks & Recreation employees and their immediate family members are ineligible to enter.
8. At the time of the strike, the fish must be fought and brought to gaff by the entrant only. Partners/parents
may assist in casting and landing fish.
RULES FOR THE `OHANA DIVISION
1. `Ohana teams will consist of only ONE Adult (18 years old & older) and one or more youth participants (5 -
17 years old).
2. Participants must be immediate family members (mother, father, sister, brother, grandfather, or
grandmother.)
3. Participants may enter the `Ghana Division in addition to their individual division, only one adult per `Ghana
team.
4. At least two members of the `Ghana team must catch a qualifying fish to be weighed in.
5. Each `Ghana team must determine their heaviest fish in each of the three specific species ahead of time.
6. Prizes will be awarded to the total weight of each one of the three following specific species of fish: Kupipi
(Gray damselfish), Po`opa`a (spotted hawkfish), and O`u Menpachi (soldier fish). Only one fish of each
species will be weighed.
WEIGH-IN INFORMATION
WEIGH-IN SITE INFORMATION:
1. All fish will be weighed in at the Honoka'a Sports Complex P&R Gym.
2. The weigh-in time is from 12 p.m, to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, August 20, 2023. Entrants must be in line at the
weigh-in no later than 1:30 p.m. to qualify their fish. The tournament weigh master's watch shall
determine the end of the weigh-in time.
3. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be allowed on the premises.
4. The "2023 P&R OHANA SHORELINE FISHING TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE" will not be responsible for
theft, fire, or loss of any property during this tournament or at the weigh-in site.
WEIGH-IN MEASUREMENT. All fish will be weighed on the state certified scale at the weigh-in site. If any two
fish are in dispute due to identical weight, the determining factor shall be the earlier time a fish was weighed in
shall determine the winner. All weights and times are final as deemed by the tournament weigh-in committee.
AWARDS CEREMONY TO BEGIN FOLLOWING CONCLUSION OF WEIGH-IN PERIOD. ENTRANTS
MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE AWARDS.

All paid and registered participants are automatically entered. Prizes are awarded for most fish, not
total weight.

FISH COUNT SITE INFORMATION:
1. All fish will be counted at the Honoka'a Sports Complex P&R Gym.
2. Fish count will be at the same time as divisional weigh-in, 12 p.m, to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, August
20, 2023. Entrants must be in line no later than 1:30 p.m. to qualify their fish. The tournament
weigh master's watch shall determine the end of the fish count time.

`OHANA SHORELINE FISHING TOURNAMENT ART CONTEST RULES:
1. Entrants must be entered in the 2023 `Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament to participate in this Art
Contest. Participants will be judged based on the Age Group entered.
2. One winner will be selected from each Age Division.
3. An overall winner will be chosen amongst all Age Group Divisions.
4. Winner's design will be used for the 2024 Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament flyer.
5. Art entries for this contest must be mailed in with application by Friday, July 21, 2023.
