Dear Windward Planning Commission:
As a Puna resident, I am writing to support the above application for a special use permit. I believe we need places like
Hawaii Eco Retreat (HER) to not only help build a stronger community but also to create jobs and a clean and productive
local economy based on education, respect for the land, and eco -tourism.
I am a regular visitor to HER and I urge all that are concerned to visit the center and see what an inspirational place it
can be. The gardens/orchards and off -grid infrastructure exemplify how people can live more closely to the land and a
sustainable style that adds to the solution of the climate and environmental crises instead of creating more problems.
Also since Kalani Retreat Center has taken a big step back in recent years due to various issues, this type of center is in
great need in our community.
I understand that HER is sensitive to their neighbors and have initiated conversations and guidelines to address stated
concerns.
I support approval of this application.
