As a part time Puna resident, I am writing to support the above application for a special use
permit. I believe we need places like this to not only help build a stronger community but also
to create jobs and a clean local economy based on education and tourism.
I am a frequent visitor, spending several months each winter in Puna and using the facilities,
and urge all that are concerned to visit the center and see what an inspirational place it is
indeed, being part of the efforts to create a sustainable future and new forms of living that
many communities in Europe and all over the world are trying to implement. The
gardens/orchards and off-grid infrastructure exemplify how people can live more closely to the
land and a sustainable style that adds to the solution of the carbon crisis instead of creating
more problems. Also since Kalani has taken a big step back, this type of center is in great
need.
I understand that HER is sensitive to their neighbors and have initiated conversations and
guidelines to address concerns.
Your approval of this application would be very appreciated.
