Aloha,
I am Elias Kalaniopio President of the Pu'ukapu Homeowners Association.
Our neighborhood is directly across from the proposed refining.
I have lived in this neighborhood for 22 years and am writing in EXTREME opposition to the re-zoning application
PL-SLU-2022-000008.
The current congestion, extreme lack of roadway easement/sidewalk access already makes this corridor of access
into Waimea extremely dangerous.
It the 22 years of raising my children here, not 1 time have they been able to ride their bikes to school, less that a
mile away, due to the lack of roadway infrastructure.
Does the city counsel recall the devastating death of one of our community residents? A wife, mother and teacher
who was beheaded by a driver, hit from behind due to congestion and lack of proper byways.
The over development of other islands should be considered as a cautionary tale for our urban developers and those
seeking to expand for the sake of expansion without looking at the heart and history of what makes our community a
place in need of that expansion.
I am not anti development,on the contrary.
I believe that development only when first considering how the surrounding community will be impacted.
The entire corridor South West of town is a prime area for commercial and other development not an area of family
life that has already been over built with commercial business.
With Aloha,
Elias Kalaniopio.
