From: kapulei flores <br />To: LPCtestimonv <br />Subject: 577 07.16.23 Laura Caverly Testimony WITH COMMENTS OPPOSED to Kaupulehu Land LLC Applications - <br />July 20, 2023 <br />Date: Sunday, July 16, 2023 5:48:49 AM <br />Form Summary <br />Attention: Leeward Planning Commission <br />My name is Laura Caverly <br />My email is <br />reside at 96727 <br />We urge the Leeward Planning <br />2) Rezoning prime agricultural lands (A-5a) to <br />Commission to REJECT these <br />commercial and residential is not in compliance with the <br />applications for rezoning and <br />Hawai'i County General Plan., 5) This proposed <br />State Land Use boundary <br />development would cause further traffic congestion in <br />amendment for 64-983 <br />this area., 6) This project doesn't conform to the <br />Mamalahoa Hwy. <br />Waimea Town policies of the South Kohala Community <br />Development Plan that stipulates preservation of <br />Waimea's sense of place, responsible growth, <br />environmental stewardship, and developing affordable <br />housing. <br />Additional comments: <br />Please take into consideration the long term creation of <br />Waimea into a resident friendly, low traffic walkable <br />town. Placing another building on the main highway far <br />out of the town center does not serve. Currently the last <br />time I tried to walk from near this location in to town the <br />barely existent sidewalk was flooded with a river. This <br />building will not increase Waimea's beauty but rather <br />cause traffic problems, and even worse continue Turing <br />this area into what could be lovely farms and homes into <br />more industrial zone. It's important to carefully plan for <br />Waimea's future so as not to ruin it. In addition it <br />appears that there is a stream that runs through here. <br />Please make sure to recognize the importance of <br />protecting clean waterways, even seasonal was. It's a <br />shame the way the back of KTA shopping center sits <br />right on the river. Th stream could have been protected <br />with space and an area to sit and picnic.
