Since its founding in 1991 Friends of the Future has provided a wide range of services to more than 100 community-based programs including grants management, technical assistance, accounting, human resources, strategic planning, and meeting facilitation. Currently, there are 33 programs and initiative active within Friends of the Future, nine (9) specifically supporting education, youth and families. Brown in 1991 and has continuously maintained its 501c3 status and current registrations with the State of Hawaii since that time. Over the past five (5) years, the average number of employees has been 13, with an additional 10 independent contractors and 40-50 volunteers. Susan Maddox, the Executive Team Leader, has been with the organization since January 1996, and has more than 40 years nonprofit experience in Hawaii, as well as 12 years of experience in the Hawaii for profit sector. Her work experience includes human resources, program manage-ment, facilitation and strategic planning, fund development, financial oversight and technical assistance to emerging organizations. During her tenure at Friends of the Future, more than 100 community-based programs have operated under the organization’s umbrella. Currently there are 33 active programs, many of them connected to education, youth and families. For more than ten years (2010-2020) Friends of the Future served as fiscal sponsor for Baby STEPS to Stronger Big Island Families. During that time large annual early childhood education conferences attended by more than 300 early childhood professionals, and six (6) years of 21st Century Com-munity Learning Center activities took place. Over the course the fiscal sponsorship, Friends of the Future managed more than $1,400,000 in funding from the US Department of Education, Hawaii Department of Education and Hawaii P-20. More recently Friends of the Future has provided fiscal sponsorship, grants management and reporting, accounting and human resources services to these projects: Aloha MAP: Project Director Lilinoi Grace, gracelilinoi@gmail.com. For the past 5 years, Friends of the Future has served as fiscal sponsor and technical support for a series of federal Native Hawaiian Education grants which support tutoring, fields trips, career exploration and STEM related activities for more than 2,000 students in grades K-12 at 12 West Hawaii public schools. Annual funding for the program is $2,783,927. Currently, there are two (2) 3-year federal grants awaiting decisions totaling $3,535,359 and $3,565,599 respectively. Learning 2 Thrive: Program Director Kō Education Center Kei-Lin Cerf, klcerf@hawaii.edu . The multi-year program is designed to assist young adults with children pursue higher educational goals while simultaneously supporting their childrenʻs learning. Funding of $525,000 over four (4) years is provided by the OʻNeill Family Foundation. No Ke Ola Pono O Nā Keiki: Program Coordinator Joel Matsunaga, joel.matsunaga@k12.hi.us . The program provides physical activities field days across West Hawaii Complex Area public schools. The program also provides athletic equipment for the schools and teacher training so schools can continue offering physical activities on a regular basis. Early Childhood Education Career Pathway: Program Coordinator Tonya Baybayan, tonya.baybayan@gmail.com. The program works with high school juniors and seniors to obtain dual credit for early childhood education classes at Hawaii Community College. Friends of the Future provides grants management, accounting and technical assistance to the program team. Funded by grants from The 2-year $263,000 program is funded by the Harry & Jeannette Weinberg Foundation and the Samuel N. & Mary Castle Foundation.
