<br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />HEARING TRANSCRIPT <br />OCTOBER 21, 2005 <br />MOANI HEIGHTS COMMUNITY <br />A regularly advertised hearing on the application of <br />ASSOCIATION AT THE UPLANDS AT MAUNA KEA (REZ 05-014) <br />was called to order at <br />9:44 a.m. in the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, Islander Room, 75-5660 Palani Road, <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii with Chairman Fred Galdones presiding. <br />PRESENT:Fred GaldonesABSENT & EXCUSED: Hannah Springer <br />C. Kimo AlamedaAllen Salavea <br />Jeffrey McCall <br />Rodney H. Watanabe <br />Rene Siracusa <br />William R. Graham <br />Chris Yuen, Deputy Planning Director <br />Norman Hayashi, Planning Program Manager <br />Phyllis Fujimoto, Staff Planner <br />Jeff Darrow, Staff Planner <br />Ivan Torigoe, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />And approximately 1 person from the public in attendance. <br />MOANI HEIGHTS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION AT THE UPLANDS AT MAUNA <br />KEA(REZ05-014) <br />ChangeofZonefor13.028acresfromaMultipleFamilyResidential15,000squarefoot(RM- <br />15) district to a Single Family Residential 15,000 square foot (RS-15) district. The area <br />consists of several lots within the Uplands at Mauna Kea Subdivision located mauka of the <br />Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Highway 19) and the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and Mauna Kea <br />Beach Hotel complexes, Ouli, South Kohala, Hawaii, TMK: 6-2-16:1 to 19. <br />GALDONES:Commissioners we are on agenda item number 3. Applicant is Moani <br />Heights Community Association at the Uplands at Mauna Kea REZ 05-014. This is a change of <br />zone for 13.028 acres from a Multiple Family Residential 15,000 square foot RM-15 district to <br />a Single-Family Residential 15,000 square foot RS-15 district. Norman? <br />HAYASHI:Thank you Mr. Chair. Going to the Planning Commissions overall <br />location map. This area that Im outlining is referred to as the Mauna Kea Resort. It includes <br />both the Mauna Kea Resort as well as the Hapuna Beach Resort Complexes. This is the Queen <br />Kaahumanu Highway going towards Kona and this would be in the Kawaihae direction. The <br />subject property is indicated by this orange dot and it is situated mauka of the Queen Kaahumanu <br />Highway. Access to the property, this would be the intersection that you would, roadway that <br />you would come turn off to go the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel.
