<br />WINDWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br />HEARING TRANSCRIPT <br />DECEMBER 4, 2009 <br />A regularly advertised hearing on the application of MALA MOHALA (SPP 09-000088) <br />was called to order at 9:40 a.m. in the County of Hawaii, Aupuni Center Conference Room, <br />101 Pauahi Street, Hilo, Hawai‘i, with Chairman Rell Woodward presiding. <br />PRESENT: Rell Woodward <br /> Takashi Domingo <br /> Andrew Iwashita <br /> Zendo Kern <br /> Wallace Ishibashi <br />Brandon Gonzalez, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />BJ Leithead Todd, Planning Director <br />Warren Lee, Director of Public Works <br />Norman Hayashi, Planning Program Manager <br />Phyllis Fujimoto, Staff Planner <br />Jeff Darrow, Staff Planner <br />Maija Cottle, Staff Planner <br />And 15 people from the public in attendance. <br />APPLICANT: MALA MOHALA (SPP 09-000088) <br />Special Permit to allow the establishment of an overnight retreat camp for youths on 7.8 acres of <br />land situated within the State Land Use Agricultural District.The property is located along the <br />north side of Kaala Iki Road, approximately 1.2 miles mauka of Highway 11 and Honuapo Park, <br />Honuapo, Ka’u, Hawaii, TMK: 9-5-15:15. <br />WOODWARD: I will proceed to Item No. 2 which is also a continued item from last <br />meeting. Applicant is Mala Mohala, Special Permit to allow the establishment of an overnight <br />retreat camp for youths on, well, actually 6.4 acres, we now know, of land situated within the <br />State Land Use Agricultural District in Honuapo, Ka’u, Hawaii. Jeff. <br />DARROW: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Good morning, Members of the Planning <br />Commission. This is a continued hearing from our November 6, 2009 Windward Planning <br />Commission hearing. At our last hearing the Planning Commission requested that the applicant <br />provide three items of interest. These were identified as information regarding licensing from <br />either the Department of Health, the Department of Human Services, or the Department of <br />Education. No. 2 was to provide information regarding permitting processes and from the <br />Department of Public Works as well as the Planning Department in being able to bring all <br />structures on the property to become legal and, lastly, to provide an easier to read site plan. <br />1 <br /> EXHIBIT B <br /> <br />
