RE: Fishing Access
Aloha Mayor Kim,
Writing to inform or request of inquiry regarding fisherman being excused in the area
known ancestrally as Kawaa, Kāʻu.
From my understanding, Kawaa is under County of Hawaiʻi property and allows access
into the area to subsistence fishing. Multiple fishermen have been told that they will no longer be
able to fish in the area due to development. Even though I do not see anything in the future plans
for development. My further understanding of the situation is also stemmed from Nature
Conservancy.
If there are any further information to the ongoing issue of access for resources, please let
us know to relay to our fishing communities.
Mahalo,
