9/21 meeting
To follow up on the outcomes of our Monday meeting, I am waiting for Tom to send me two drafts of letters inviting
Suzanne Case and the head of Fish and Wildlife in Hawaii to our next meeting.
I would also like to update you on the Hakalau property, which Tony was discussing. According to county property
manager Hamana Ventura, The PONC committee has made the eight -acre parcel the No. 3 priority for acquisition. The
proposal does not include the larger parcel, which is what I think Tony was interested in. Tony mentioned that Mr.
Shropshire is only interested in divesting the entire package. Hamana added that Mr. Shropshire has set a deadline of
March 2016 to complete the transaction.
PONC's recommendations are forwarded to the council in February, and council must agendize, send to committee and
full council, and the outcome is that it directs property management to enter into negotiations with the property owner.
Meanwhile Mr. Shropshire has abandoned plans to rezone the property and is working with the Planning Department to
determine allowable uses on the smaller parcel, which is zoned for commercial and industrial uses.
