Dear Members of the Windward Planning Commission,
As a lifelong resident born and raised in Pahala, Ka'u HI, I am writing to express my
earnest support for the proposed development plans put forth by Black Sand Beach LLC.
I firmly believe that this project holds the potential to rejuvenate Ka'u, offering invaluable
opportunities for its residents and fostering much-needed employment.
Ka'u has persistently grappled with economic challenges, characterized by limited job
prospects that force many to endure extensive commutes. The envisioned resort
development serves as a beacon of hope, promising substantial job creation and
economic revitalization. Beyond immediate employment benefits, it pledges to pave a
brighter path for younger generations, enabling them to flourish in their hometown.
Recognizing the delicate balance between economic advancement and cultural
preservation, I am gratified to attest to Eva Liu and her team's unwavering dedication to
both causes. Their genuine reverence for the historical and culturally significant sites of
Punalu'u exemplifies commendable stewardship, a rarity in past land development
endeavors.
Furthermore, their exceptional receptiveness to community feedback demonstrated
through meticulous plan adjustments, merits acknowledgment.
Addressing concerns regarding the integration of county bathrooms into the sewer
system underscores a crucial step towards environmental preservation, vital for
safeguarding Punalu'u's sensitive ecosystem.
Failing to take action is imprudent, given the ongoing influx of visitors to Punalu'u, the
ongoing degradation of infrastructure systems, and the persistent risk of invasive growth,
posing threats to the area's ecological integrity and fire safety. Black Sand Beach LLC
expresses sincere appreciation and stewardship through its concerted efforts in
safeguarding and preserving this region.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly endorse the resort development proposed by Eva Liu and
Punaluu Black Sands LLC as a pivotal stride towards Ka'u's economic resurgence,
underscored by responsible development practices that honor our cultural legacy. I
implore the Windward Planning Commission to lend their support to this transformative
initiative for the betterment of our community and future generations.
