If you were writing a textbook about how to design a project guaranteed to galvanize the community
against it, you would include this project.
There are no plans for burial treatment, preservation of burial sites, or access for descendants.
Nesting sites for rare sea turtles are at risk from construction and from hordes of visitors, as is the
anchialine pool. The wastewater system is probably contaminating the ocean and must be replaced.
The last Environmental Impact Statement done for the area was done almost two decades ago, but
the developer balks at updating it. No shoreline certification is planned, though sea levels are
steadily rising. Previous developments in the area have failed.
I urge this Commission and the developer to listen to the voices of the community and protect this
irreplaceable treasure.
