onboard beginning January 16, 2023. We will now focus on filling the Data

Executive on Aging reported on the budget process and that the first
budget meeting with the Finance Department would be this afternoon at
2:00 p.m. We were very fortunate to have assistance from an accountant
from another department assist in helping us prepare our budget.
Executive on Aging reported on the December 13, 2022, and
December 15, 2022, AARP meetings in Hilo and Kona that he was invited
to speak at. Executive shared with the members that the Big Island is truly
a BIG Island. The U.S. Census classifies Hawaiʻi County as ⅔ (two-third)
rural with two urban centers. In planning for retirement and where one
would like to spend their retirement, besides finances, one needs to
consider the availability of services and access to them.
Executive on Aging reported that workforce development would be a high
priority in the upcoming legislative session. Committee members who are
interested in the process, were encouraged to submit testimony or contact
their legislator as a constituent. The office will submit to the committee the
five bills that made it into the Kupuna Caucus package. Also, we will be
sharing other bills of interest that may have impact to our Kupuna.
Chalintorn Burian, AARP, mentioned broadband and they did a study to
see what is available for the kupunas, and if they are interested. It was

asked earlier what AARP are doing. AARP has a listening session to look
at what are the priorities for the coming year. When January legislative
session opens, we need to prioritize what issues need to address with

drugs for seniors. AARP is also interested in Livable Communities for
