Novinger Opposition Testimony 11.49am From: Anne Marie Novinger To: WPCtestimonv Subject: Proposed Development at Punalu"u Date: Tuesday,March 5,2024 11:49:40 AM Importance: High Honorable County Leaders, We are long time owners of a condominium at Sea Mountain at Punalu'u since 1978. We found and located at this enchanted spot after searching all over the world for two years to find the most beautiful location. We selected Punalu'u! We love it there and found no other place anything like it. We feel strongly that the area should be preserved for the Hawaiian people and other local citizens who live in the area. The Big Island is very special with more pure blooded Hawaiians there than anywhere else in the island chain. Let's keep it that way. We are greatly alarmed by the proposed commercial development at Punalu'u. We feel that it would be a tragedy to this most spectacular location. It is Old Hawaii at its best. It's rural charm and atmosphere are unique on the Big Island. We predict multiple losses: Native enjoyment of the area including locals deep sea fishing, locals swimming, and many other local activities at Punalu'u. Accessible beach without parking fees Precious natural area including a much-revered Hawaiian graveyard Local Hawaiian beauty for all who live in the area Stunning views of the ocean and enjoyment of its sounds Dark nights with superior star gazing Quiet Minimal use of area without tourist crowds We fear danger to local flora and fauna such as the endangered sea turtles, nenes, fish and seals. The proposed outdoor amphitheater would add unpleasant noise and crowds and destroy the tranquility of the neighborhood. The proposed additional 250 parking spaces would damage the environment and its flora and fauna. The views from the existing lovely condos would be compromised. In addition there are dangers. The area is in a Tsunami Zone and also is prone to fires. Lastly we insist upon a new Environmental Impact Study. The last one was done twenty years ago. In summation, we strongly advocate for keeping Punalu'u the way it is! Yours very sincerely, Anne Marie Novinger and Barbara L. Novinger dated March 5, 2024 - 818-249-4900
