From: Patricia Martin
To: WPCtestimonv
Subject: Punaluu Kau Developement
Date: Tuesday, March 5,2024 12:27:21 PM
I appose most of the Massive Resort plans for the Punaluu Black Sand Beach. My family has
lived there for over 100 years. I lived there since I was six years old, played on the beach with
other children, started a little business just by selling handmade jewelry made with the beans,
shells, seeds from the area to the tourists that came down to the beach for nickels and dimes.
My mom washed our clothes on the rocks by the spring. We got our water from a well. Mom
lived there until she died at the age of 98 and is buried at the little church on the hill
with a lot of our ancestors. She had to lease the land because she couldn't buy it. None of the
owners even offered to sell it to her. I understand that there will always be some changes in
the future, nothing really stays the same, however, the proposal that is before us is massive. I
agree the place could use an upgrade, but the upgrade doesn't need to be that big. I agree the
sewer and water systems need to be upgraded and this should be done first. I agree there
should be a nice restaurant there like it was before for the locals as well as the visitors. Fix up
what is already there like the Aspen.
I agree with a cafe by the tennis and golf club house. But I don't agree with rental houses and
lots more condos and seafood markets. Local vendors but not commercial stores. This place is
beautiful and it doesn't need to become like Waikiki Beach.
Don't let them ruin the natural beauty of this place with so many buildings. They don't care
about the natural beauty of this land. This should be a natural and historical place to visit. I
don't live there now but come back to visit my family often.
Please. please, don't let them do all of what they want.
Patricia Keala Martin
