Punalu'u Beach, Ka'u District
Aloha kakou,
I grew up in what would have at one time been
considered Wao Kele O Puna- the upper'ohi'a
rainforest in the area now called Mountain
View.
I stand in unity with our kanaka community
and other concerned local residents who
continue to express opposition to the proposed
development and SMA permit at Punalu'u
Beach and surrounding area.
I adamantly oppose this project and permit
request.
For the sake of brevity,please be advised:
LISTEN TO THE LOCAL VOICES. LISTEN
AND UNDERSTAND EACH AND EVERY
CONCERN BEING BROUGHT TO YOU IN
GREAT DETAIL.
I too believe that this proposed development is
nothing more than foreign investment seeking
to exploit treasured local resources and
endanger critical wildlife habitat for nothing
more than capitalist profit- a way of life that
does nothing to serve our local people, and the
priceless beauty of this undeveloped
landscape, the deep connections to place that
our indigenous Hawaiian people call home,
and relatively intact ecosystems in the upper
forest reserves within Ka'u must remain
intact. There are no other large scale resorts
of any kind in Ka'u, this should NOT be the
first. Keep Ka'u Country. Let the people of
this moku decide what they need and want. As
for this project: A'ole—NO!
We expect YOU to do the right thing. Vote
A'ole.
