Aloha,
I'm writing to testify against the proposed development in Ka'u.
I grew up in Ka'u and don't want to see our home turned into a Kona resort. None of the local
people will be able to afford these condos. It will be full of tourists and foreigners all year
long.
Punalu'u beach is the main gathering place in Ka'u. It is a special place to the local people, and
it's been that way for generations.
The beach is not that big! Tourists are already crowding the beach on a day to day basis. If this
proposal goes through, it will overcrowd the beach. The impacts to wildlife, the land, the
traditions, will all be deteriorated.
There are huge liabilities with this proposal. This is a Tsunami Zone, there is a huge safety
risk to bringing more people into this area. Build away from the Tsunami Zone! This is a fire
prone area as well, and again, a huge risk with only one road in and out. Think about Lahaina!
