Aloha mai 'oukou,
To whom it may concern, I am submitting written testimony in STRONG OPPOSITION to
ANY proposed development of Punalu'u beach in Ka'u by any developer wishing to develop
this pristine, untouched land that surrounds a community of mostly Native Hawaiians.
The absolute last thing we need in Ka'u is another "retail area,proposed housing that will
escalate the already extremely dire housing options for Native Hawaiians in Ka'u. And the
absolute last thing Ka'u needs is a golf course, which is essentially a rich man's sport as it
requires all sorts of costly membership access to play and takes a ridiculous amount of land
and water resources to maintain.
Such proposals speak to a forced displacement of Native Hawaiians from Hawaii, which we
already see that there are more Native Hawaiians living in the diaspora than in Hawaii and that
is NOT OK.
We are refusing to allow any development of our beautiful Ka'u community. Any developer
would still need to get an environmental assessment plan and community consent, which
clearly any developer would not receive.
