Aloha mai kakou,
I am writing to voice my concern over the proposed development at Punalu'u beach. I am a
resident of Ka'u, a cultural practitioner and an archaeologist. My family has lived here for
generations. I am very familiar with this area and can attest to the fact that Punalu'u is a very
significant wahi pang, rich in archaeological resources and cultural importance. Allowing the
developer to move forward with development based on antiquated and incomplete studies
would be a grave mistake,which likely would result in litigation. I humbly ask the commission
to honor the CDP and deny an SMA permit for the development of Punalu'u. I strongly oppose
this development of the sacred wahi pang of Punalu'u.
