CALL THE MEETING TO ORDER – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair called the meeting to order at 10:00 a. m. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 15, 2023 MEETING – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair motion to approve the minutes of the meeting. Motion to move and approve the minutes by Lisa McNamarra, and seconded by Chalintorn Burian. Unanimously approved. 6. EXECUTIVE ON AGING REPORT AND UPDATES – Horace Farr, Executive Report - Reminder - Older Americans Month (OAM) is a national event. Older Americans Month Luncheon is on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort. HCOA is now accepting nominations and applications are now available. - Applications was distributed to the senior sites and clubs. Transportation provided to about 300 participants island-wide. - “The Wall That Heals” - This is in honor of all Veterans. If you have the opportunity to stop by and visit. First time in Hawai’i County and Maui County. st - Starting round of contracts: Beginning with State contracts for July 1 implementation. Federal contracts to begin October. - Hawaii County Nutrition Program (HCNP) – NSIP (Nutrition Services Incentive Program) o FY22, Meals served 16.12% of meals served in the state. o FY23, 99,491 Meals served 18.56% of meals served in the state. o 2.5% increase in allocated funds, yet we had a ~ 11% decrease in meals served. o State over all: FY22 – 693,349. FY23 – 535,987 – a 157,362 decrease in meals served ~ 23% decrease. 7. POLICY ADVISORY BOARD OF ELDERLY AFFAIRS (PABEA) – Shelly Ogata PABEA Report - The legislature updated their website. There are training videos and other information. In the Kupuna Caucus package, five (5) bills were selected: HB 1769, SB 2473- Family Caregiver Tax Credit Bill HB 1779, SB 2472 – Allowance Increase from $50.00 to $75.00. These are on the nursing home person is allowed to purchase personal items and services such as haircut, etc.. HB 1771, SB 2470 – Healthy Aging Program HB 1772, SB 2471 – Falls Prevention HB 1768, SB 2474 – Family Living Insurance DISTRICT – REPORTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON AGING MEETING MINUTES Thursday, January 25, 2024, 10:00 A.M. Page 3 Bill(s) that did not make the package is the Silver Alert Program but will be introduced by Representative Chun. Our county has the program in place. It’s the other counties that do not have the program. 8. BUSINESS DISCUSSIONS – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair Judy Bell mentioned that last month the Mayor’s Annual Report was submitted. 9. Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair - Judy Bell reported on the Kona Adult Day Center (KADC) – looking for space. Horace mentioned there were a couple of suggestions that have been brought to our attention. We are working with entities. It is not the Office of Aging that’s going to open KADC. We are trying to assist in helping entities come together. We are to look at demographics, clientele, cost and other factors. Judy mentioned that she spoke to the Hawaii Community Caregiver Board who are willing to help in any way they can. Also communicated with the Kona Task Force and asked if anyone has contacts with any commercial real estate and brokers. Found out the old Kmart is not available. One of the board member who is on the Chamber of Commerce mentioned Kmart will become the film studio. It will be the largest film studio in the state. Part of he old Safeway in Kona will be occupied by the U.S. Post Office and other retail businesses. Horace mentioned he did have a conversation with Rowena. The entity that is interested has experience in daycare. Her concern is that the old place was not feasible. 10. ANNOUNCEMENTS – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair Horace Farr announced AARP Taxes preparation will be until April 2024; and looking to secure the next committee meeting on July 26, 2024 or September 27, 2024 pending meeting room availability in Kona at the West Hawaii Civic Center (WHCC). 11. NEXT COMMITTEE ON AGING MEETING – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair - Friday, March 22, 2024 - Committee voted Friday, July 26, 2024 meeting to be held in Kona 12. ADJOURNMENT – Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair Judy Bell, Committee Vice Chair move to adjourn the meeting; Lisa McNamarra motioned to move; seconded by Judy Bell.
