9. Judy Bell, Committee Vice-Chair
- Judy Bell reported on the Kona Adult Day Center (KADC) – looking for space.
Horace mentioned there were a couple of suggestions that have been brought to our
attention. We are working with entities. It is not the Office of Aging that’s going to
open KADC. We are trying to assist in helping entities come together. We are to
look at demographics, clientele, cost and other factors. Judy mentioned that she
spoke to the Hawaii Community Caregiver Board who are willing to help in any way
they can. Also communicated with the Kona Task Force and asked if anyone has
contacts with any commercial real estate and brokers. Found out the old Kmart is not
available. One of the board member who is on the Chamber of Commerce mentioned
Kmart will become the film studio. It will be the largest film studio in the state. Part
of he old Safeway in Kona will be occupied by the U.S. Post Office and other retail
businesses. Horace mentioned he did have a conversation with Rowena. The entity
that is interested has experience in daycare. Her concern is that the old place was not
feasible.
