I'm Alyse Rossiter,and I'm a proud homeowner here in Hawaii County.My family
and I are all about sharing our slice of paradise through hosted short-term rentals. So,about this Bill 121 and its
quiet hour rules,I've got some thoughts I'd love to share with you.
First off,I totally get where the County Council is coming from, wanting to keep our neighborhoods peaceful.
Absolutely,no one's here for a 24/7 party vibe. But,with the state laws we already have in place,I feel like we're
doubling up on rules that do the same thing. Our guests, they're just here to chill and soak in the good vibes, not
disturb the peace. Sometimes guests can get excited as they come to have a vacation. The thing is,with hosts on the
property,we too can hear the noise! We make sure the guests know the rules for our enjoyment as much as our
neighbors!
The core of my concern is that I'm just thinking about those evenings when my family or our guests might be
enjoying a simple get-together,nothing wild, just some good conversation, maybe a little music playing softly in the
background.Under the new bill,it seems like this could ruffle some feathers, even though we're all about keeping
things respectful and neighborly.
It's a bit concerning,you know?Like,if we're all following the state's noise guidelines,having another layer of rules
feels superfluous.Plus,it kind of puts us in a tight spot, worrying if enjoying our home or hosting guests who are
part of the fam for their stay might unintentionally lead to trouble.
So,here's a thought:why not stick with the state laws on noise? They're already doing a great job of balancing
everyone's need for quiet time and the natural sounds of living life. That is the requirement for my neighbors, why
can't that be the requirement for us as well? This way,we keep things simple, fair, and focused on what really
matters—building a community where everyone feels welcome, whether they're here for a night or a lifetime.
Thanks a ton for considering my two cents on this.Really appreciate the hard work you all put into making our
community the best place to live and visit.
Take care,
Alyse Rossiter
