Aloha,
As a Realtor,primarily in the Puna/Pahoa areas,for the past 15 years I have seen the primarily positive impact that
short term vacation rentals have had on my clients and the communities in general. This bill will cause more harm
to the communities by limiting their ability to produce needed income.As an island that has an economy that relies
heavily on tourism trying to limit it or over regulate it is short sighted.
Additionally homeowners have private property rights that will be eroded and in my opinion unconstitutional.I am
100%against the change of increasing the minimum duration for short-term rentals from 30 to 180 days. This is
100%unnecessary.A rental for 30+days is different from a rental for 3 days and this should be respected and
recognized.Allowing a select group of"renters"the right to bypass the proposed law is absolutely discriminatory.
I am also against the rush to get this Bill passed. We still don't know the actual versus perceived impact of
Ordinance 2018-114. Creating more restrictions and regulations at this time is not the solution.
I also watched the public's response to the proposed changes and it was overwhelming against the restrictions.As
elected officials by the people,for the people,this should matter!
