From: Chandra Oshima
To: WPCtestimony
Subject: testimony for bill 121
Date: Monday,April 1,2024 4:23:58 PM
To:
WPCtestimonyQhawaiicounty.2ov
Subject: Urgent Concerns Regarding Bill 121 and Its Impact on Local Communities
Chairman Dennis Lin
Windward Planning Commission
County of Hawaii
25 Aupuni St.
Unit 1502
Hilo, HI 96720
Aloha Chairman Lin,
I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding Bill 121 and its impact on Hawaii Island
residents. I am a public school teacher working to educate the young on this island. In
order to afford the high living costs here on the island, I rent out the first floor of my house
as a short term rental. Having a house in a camp community, it is considered an
agricultural area, which would make continuing as a short term rental all but impossible
under this bill. Since it is a traditional home, I do not have an accurate house plan, so it
would require extra funds to obtain one by a professional, and along with other increased
fees, would cause financial hardships.
I am not opposed to the registration of short term rentals, but respectfully request that the
planning commission review the restrictions and fees, allowing short term rentals in
agricultural zones, so that those of us trying to make this island our home is a possibility
for teachers like myself.
Me ke aloha pumehana,
Chandra Oshima
P.O. Box 450
9072206082
