TIMELINE OF EVENTS
Timeline of events since january 2023:
January 19, 2023: Leeward Planning Commission granted standing to participate in a contested case hearing to 3 petitioners, Charles A. Anderson, EWM Enterprises, LP and Kohala Makani
Kai, LLC.
March 16, 2023: Leeward Planning Commission voted to defer hearings on the agenda item until completion of the mediation process or conclusion of a contested case hearing.
April 2023: Petitions for standing in a contested case hearing filed by William Melton (April 4) and Dale and Don Franzen (April 6).
July 12, 2023: Request to withdraw initial 3 petitions (Anderson et al).
February 26, 2024: Following mediation process, effective date of an agreement with the initial 3 petitioners (Anderson et al).
March 4, 2024: Effective date of an agreement with petitioners Melton and Franzen (both petitions withdrawn on March 5, 2024).

APPLICANT’S REQUEST
APPLiCANT’s Request:
To amend the existing special permit and sma use permit, originally approved on august 2, 2001, to allow a 16-room permaculture and wellness retreat on an approximately 5.0-acre portion
of a 14.5-acre parcel of land.
The applicant wishes to increase the number of guest rooms from 16 to 36 by building 20 new 400-square foot hales.
The hales consist of a bedroom and bathroom, with no individual kitchen facilities.
The structures will be sited in a manner that does not disrupt or impact the existing garden and orchards.
The applicant proposes to add up to 5 new full and/or part-time employees.
