• A Traditional Cultural Property designation is a way to protect
tangible resources that occur within a designated area and are
associated with often intangible cultural practices and/or belief
systems of a group or community.
• TCP's were significant in the past, they're significant in the
present, and they will be significant in the future.
• Once a TCP is designated it is afforded protections under the
National Historic Preservation Act.
• The significance of a TCP is only determined by the community
that values it.

Challenges:

• TCP's must be described, and AMERICA
their significance documented.
• TCP's must have a boundary.
• The property must meet the NR eligibility criteria
