Our family owns a home in kona where we visit often as a family. We keep our property in
great condition and have a good relationship with all of our neighbors. When we are not in
Hawaii, we rent it as a licensed vacation rental. We follow all the rules and regulations and
pay nearly 20% in combined taxes on any rent we collect, plus property taxes. There are other
hosted rentals in our area that do not require any license and do not pay taxes. They rented
during Covid,when we were unable to host any guests. I know there is a shortage of long term
rental properties on the big island. We would like to see all rentals treated and enforced with
equity and the tax funds collected be used to build more long term rental properties.
