Subject: Protect Punalu"u from development
Date: Wednesday,March 6,2024 9:48:14 PM
Aloha,
My name is Jess Heaney and I live in Pepeekeo and am a Hawaii resident. I have learned from
community organizations such as 'Aina Momona and the Center for Biological Diversity that
there is a potential development plan for Punaluu- condos and a shopping center. Please do not
support this development.
Building a resort in Ka'G, Hawaii may negatively affect the local environment and
community.
Absolutely we must protect this land and precious life, not add more concrete and water
extraction and pollution.
KA'O is known for its stunning natural beauty and diverse ecosystem, and the
construction of a resort could lead to habitat destruction, and pollution. The planned
resort also contains a Nesting site for the Federally and Internationally protected
Endangered Hawksbill Turtle, Hawaiian Monk Seals as well as the Endangered
Hawaiian Nene Geese.
Additionally, it may put a strain on local resources and infrastructure, potentially
causing disruptions to the way of life for residents.
Furthermore, the influx of tourists that a resort would bring could lead to overcrowding
and put additional pressure on the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
Overall, the construction of a resort in Ka'G may not be in the best interest of
preserving the unique natural and cultural heritage of the region and the people that
call this home.
Do not allow developers to pollute and overpopulated Punaluu! Please support the
people in protecting this precious land, its longterm residents and important refuge of
nature.
Mahalo for the opportunity to testify.
Aloha,
Jess
