To whom it may concern,
I understand that this message will reach you after today's hearing.
However, as both a wildlife conservationist and resident of Hawai'i Island,
I strongly urge you to protect Punalu'u from developers. We do not need
another commercial development, particularly on a space that is home to
numerous endangered species, threatens to force locals out of the area
during a housing crisis, and does not acknowledge or plan for the handling
of burials.
The hawksbill sea turtle population in Hawai'i is not only critically
endangered, but so small that most residents I have spoken to do not
even realize this species can be spotted here. It is unconscionable to
knowingly remove any of their habitat for commercial interests.
Please listen to the Native Hawaiians who oppose this proposal.
Please prioritize their voices and wishes for Punalu'u.
Keep Ka'u, Ka'u and do everything in your power to prevent this
development.
