Ladies and Gentlemen,
Please deny the Shoreline Management Area/SMA permit extension for Black Sands Beach LLC-Punalu'u.
The history and cultural heritage of Punalu'u,Ka'u is incontrovertible. We can only learn how much more valuable
is the sacred, the history, the meaning and understanding for the legacy represented at Punalu'u. Sites significantly
important to the Hawaiian people, must be protected at all costs.
Watching excited developers modify their plans, language and intention to conform to what can potentially"get
through"the protectors,is nauseating to observe as it matches generational ho'omalimali to get permits passed
despite community dissent, then let the celebrations and destruction begin.Watching the people lose,on repeat,
makes EVERYBODY sad on sad.We say in Hawai'i,"If you're not a part of the solution, then you must be a part
of the problem."When hundreds on hundreds voice their dissent but permits etc go through anyway,we are ALL to
blame.
We must all hold the decision makers responsible to represent the Islands and the People, not business ventures,so
that Hawai'i is protected for future generations. To recognize the manipulation,in the bright idea to construct a
place of"healing"because that sounds culturally acceptable.Punalu'u is already a place to heal.A place of respite
for local families.Historic sites already being co-opted by newcomers that think they just discovered paradise.
Please don't make it worse.Lose Punalu'u forever.
Please deny the Special Management Area Permit extension for Punalu'u.
Mahalo,
Lynn Walther
