From: Noelani CGC Paresa
To: W PCtesti mons
Subject: Please DENY sma permit extension for Black Sands LLC at Punalu"u
Date: Wednesday,April 17,2024 10:55:02 AM
Aloha,
I am lineal descendant from Maui with ties to this area of Hawaii
Island. My fust memory of this place was almost 2 decades ago and
there were few people, mostly locals gathered.Plenty of space and
serene beauty.Over the years, there seemed to be more people
coming to this place.Tour busses started coming to the parking lot.
Someone even had to put up signage to leave the turtles alone,
though there were still many getting way too close.
Most recently, last September there was an overload of tourists
filling the parking lot,a few food trucks, and what looks like a
local souvenir shop.People everywhere.Labor day weekend.
Anyone who knows this place knows it is sacred to kanaka maoli.
The heiau should be protected and this precious area kept far away
from overtourism.
Please do what is right for Hawaii.Sustainable choices and
consequences to your actions at this time is vital.
As of September 2023,what's remaining of the golf course at
Punalu'u and other tourist attractions pieces looks like rubble and
could harbor vagrants. This is not related but relevant:the
windmills north shore Kohala have they been removed or are they
still rusting away for all to see?Let's be sure to have all new
projects/developments/hotels have liability of removal of their
things when it's time to vacate premises.Thank you for your time in
reading my testimony.
Mahalol
Noelani Paresa
