Aloha,
I am writing to voice my opposition to granting approval for Black Sand Beach LLC's request
for a special management area permit in Ka`u.
The Ka`u Community Development Plan (KCDP), Policy 6, states the following:
"The development of visitor accommodations and any resort development should
complement the character of the area, protect the environment and natural beauty;
respect existing lifestyles, cultural practices, and cultural resources; provide shoreline
public access; and provide affordable housing to meet demand created by the
development."
The current plan of action will violate every aspect of this policy. Additionally, there are major safety and
environmental issues that have yet to be resolved in Punalu`u. Therefore, I demand a new Environmental
Impact Study be done to protect this area from unnecessary development.
The people of Ka`u have spoken and continue to voice their opposition to protect their home, land, and
wildlife. I respectfully urge you to deny business with Black Sand Beach LLC.
