Hello,
I live Oceanview and visit Punalu'u on a regular basis. The reason I love living in Kau is
because it is such a beautiful, remote place full of locals. It's so peaceful to view the turtles
and spend a day relaxing at the beach. There are still plenty of areas to be completely alone
out in nature here in Kau- it's such a special area of Big Island. The enviornment remains
largely untouched which is important for Hawaii's ecosystem- flora and fauna. I moved to
Hawaii 4 years ago to get away from the capitalist hustle and bustle of most areas of the
mainland. I am so upset to hear there are plans to build a resort in Punalu'u and so are the local
people. It would cause traffic,pollution, whitewash the landscape, and allow disrespectful
tourists to ruin a remote and very special area. Please respect the aina and the locals. Do not
allow this resort to be built and ruin the remoteness of Kau.
