Subject: Punalu'u development
To whom it may concern;
I grew up on O'ahu, was blessed to live on the grounds of the Bishop Museum in the 60's ,
moving up to Kapalama heights, and then to Hawaii Kai in 1971 when I was in middle
school.
So much development on the island has caused pollution in the air and the water.
I never imagined seeing smog from Waialae Ave towards Hawaii Kai, but it is now visible. I
remember feild trips to the Board of water Supply where it was explained to us how clean
our drinking water was, now we deal with Red Hill and residents, keiki, pets, getting sick
from the water.
Most heartbreaking of all is the displacement of local people, yiu see the pain and heartbreak
in their eyes as they search for cans through the trash cans, or sit on the beach while tourists
trample what was once held sacred and special.
To allow this development will be a travesty to our culture, aina, waters, and way of life. No
matter what the developers promise, you cannot control the tourist or as said" short term
renters"
I witness way way too much disrespect to locals and the environment from these visitors on
a daily basis, and all at the cost of displacement and rents that are skyrocketed and out of
reach for many of our hardworking residents.
This development should absolutely not be a consideration, I believe you can come to other
options that are environmentally friendly, protect the residents, protect the environment and
protect the turtles.
Please think of the future of OUR keiki and these lands.
Aloha, Kirsten Kaleialoha Anderson
