From: Giovanni Galiza
To: WPCtestimonv;Council Remote Testimony
Subject: Urgent Appeal: Protect Punalu"u Black Sand Beach
Date: Wednesday, March 6,2024 5:38:38 AM
Dear kahu o keia aina,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed permit for building at Punalu'u
Black Sand Beach. As a concerned resident and advocate for environmental conservation, I
firmly believe that this development would have significant negative impacts on our
community and the precious natural resources of Hawai'i.
Punalu'u Black Sand Beach holds a special place in our hearts as one of the few remaining
untouched places that authentically capture the essence of Hawai'i. With the increasing
development and commercialization of our beautiful islands, it is crucial that we preserve
these sacred spaces for future generations to experience and enjoy.
Furthermore, the proposed construction poses a direct threat to our wildlife, including turtles,
marine life, nene geese, monk seals, and coral. These species rely on the beach and its
surrounding ecosystem for their survival, and any disruption to their habitat could have
devastating consequences.
I urge you to prioritize the protection of Punalu'u Black Sand Beach by conducting a thorough
environmental impact study to assess the potential harm to wildlife and the surrounding
environment. Additionally, a shoreline certificate should be obtained given the proximity of
the planned beach club to the beach.
It is imperative that we act responsibly and consider the long-term consequences of our actions
on our fragile ecosystem. Let us work together to safeguard Punalu'u Black Sand Beach and
ensure its preservation for generations to come.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
Sincerely,
Kaimaunapono
