From: Christy R
To: WPCtestimonv;councilremotetestimonvCalhawaii.aov
Subject: Testimony regarding Development at Punalu"u
Date: Monday,March 4,2024 12:24:21 PM
Aloha,
I oppose the development at Puanlu'u black sand beach on the island of Hawai'i
Punalu'u is a special place, a place that has been left alone for many years. A place where the
family gathers for generations and beyond, where fisherman gather fish. Where my
grandfather passed down his knowledge and left footprints in the sand for us to follow. I beg
you to reconsider the development at Punalu'u black sand beach. Punalu'u is sacred.
- Burial sites, iwi kupuna? Is there a treatment plan? SMA has none!
-updated shoreline access?
- Honu conservation? ends at waipuhi
-look further into the development with the people of Ka'u planned by Eva Liu
- is there a disaster plan?which should include flooding due to rain; if you are at Punalu'u and
flooding does happen, we will be trapped, what mitigation plan? Tsunami threat? Volcanic
eruption, active cinder cone on south side of Mauna Loa
- depletion of water? from mauka to makai. Puanalu'u is diving springs. Our aquifers will be in
harm's way.
-property tax increase for the locals of Ka'u
I DO NOT SUPPORT THE PLANNING NOR DEVELOPMENT OF PUNALU'U
Mahalo,
Christy Requelman
