From: nathan iuooz
To: WPCtestimonv
Subject: Please Stop Development in Punalu'u
Date: Monday,March 4,2024 8:27:12 PM
Aloha Hawaii County.I would like to express my desire to support the community and people of Punalu'u and
Ka'u by opposing the upcoming non-agricultural development in Punalu'u.Below is a short list of just a few of the
reasons why I oppose a development of this scale:
1)Where is the EIS?
-has an Environmental Impact Statement been assessed considering not only the habitat and native life but also
the iwi kupuna.
2)Endangered species and protection
-the Honu ea or Hawaiian hawksbill turtle is a highly endangered animal that is endemic to these islands. They
also serve as a significant culturally important animal to native Hawaiians that deserves a protected place to
continue to lay eggs and revitalize their already dwindling numbers.
3)Land Tax increase
.With an already high rate of displacement of the native Hawaiian population, land taxes rising and the cost of
living skyrocketing in the ka'u area would surely add to the increase of this statistic.Don't forget it's not only the
native plants, birds, fish, and land that should be stewarded and protected but also the people. How does this
development protect the native people from displacement? How will this development prove as a turning point for
revitalizing the native Hawaiian population?Anything being developed at this point in history should always have
perpetuation of native Hawaiian population at the highest level of importance and priority.
NOTE: I can't stress how important it is to have a public hearing set for a Saturday.Having a public hearing set to a
time and day where most residents have to work to provide goes AGAINST all good and just intentions of any
entity that serves as a public service to the people of this land. Please add another hearing for a weekend date.
me ka aloha,
Nakana Makekau Jugoz
Sent from my iPhone
