HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-04-17 Bill 123 Maren Purves From: Maren Purves To: WPCtestimonv Subject: Objection to bills 121,122 and 123 Date: Wednesday,April 17,2024 1:17:08 AM Aloha Commissioners, I'm on the windward side and renting out a 4 BR house short term. There aren't many of those, especially not at rates that normal people can afford. As it had been vacant before I bought it, my neighbors there as well as their visitors park on the front lawn a lot- off the street though. If that is a problem that causes fines, especially the fines mentioned to platforms, I'll be broke in no time. I object to the term "transient accommodation rentals" because it makes it look like it is accommodating homeless people. Why not just call it "temporary accommodation rentals"? None of my renters so far were vacationers (or homeless people). During the COVID time I had a Google employee staying, More recently people were relocating here, working on the land they bought here (family of 5), or just plain working here while being forced out of state to take care of family elsewhere. As long as you don't get away from giving people squatters rights after 30 days, especially if extending "short term" to 180 days, I'm not going to rent long term. Can we please at least keep the "short term renting" and squatter's "rights" (that I don't agree to) at the same terms? Mahalo, Maren Purves
