That includes off island homeowners ( a better term would be real estate investors),property managers and realtors. All of these people are using beautiful Hawaii as their cash cow while the ordinary citizens have to suffer. How do the rest of us suffer? By living next door to a STVR and the invasion of unruly, entitled occupants By having a once friendly neighborhood overrun with strangers and rental cars By having to deal with so-called "property managers" who tell us to "F*ck off' when we call to complain about the nonstop noise and raging parties By having mainland STVR property owners cheating on their property taxes by claiming a residence status By having mainland STVR property owners cheating on their rental income earned and, in turn, their Federal and State tax forms By having mainland STVR property owners ignoring the guidelines as set forth by the county regarding STVRs...knowing that NOBODY will come out to check them from the county. I am, unfortunately, able to state that all of the above has happened to me. When the huge party house next door was illegally rented in the STVR pool and the owner and "property manager" (unlicensed)were unresponsive, I got busy! I found out all about my mainland neighbor and his unlicensed realtor/property manager by checking county records. Just the tax cheating alone was shocking! I also found out about the outstanding citations he had with the building department and I then uncovered concerns about his underpar sewage system in a home once deemed suitable for a family and now renting to 14-20 occupants. The owner next door got busted and then faced steep fines and back taxes. He put his house up for sale. We now have a nice family living there and all is well. Even though we have "lucked out" I remain firmly opposed to STVRs in regular, residential areas. There are many others still dealing with this plague/nightmare. It is for them that I speak out! Sincerely, Carol Fuller
