MEETING MINUTES
Wednesday, March 20, 2024
11:30am
I. CALL TO ORDER
a. Meeting was called to order at 11:36am by Vice Chair Shana Kukila.
II. ROLL CALL
a. Present: Shana Kukila, Farrah-Marie Gomes, Andrew Langtry, Hannah
Preston-Pita, Christina Basham, Rachelle Agrigado-Betts, Suzanna
Tiupula, Evelyn Lee (late arrival)
b. Excused: Lisa Pana, Elena Cabatu
c. Guests: Emma Falvey and Pennie Bumrungsiri from Healthy Mothers
Healthy Babies
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES for February 28, 2024
a. Clarification that the CSW has an Identification Number on the ballot so
the County can track where the ballots are coming from.
b. Motion to approve by Rachelle, second by Hannah. Motion passed.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT
A. Approval of Treasurer's Report
a. Received expenditure report through February. Credit amount is
due to County purchasing an airfare ticket, but then returned it. We
have spent $339 so far this year. We have $6,361 remaining after
factoring in approvals pending procurement.
b. Edit date of Family Services Directory approval from 12-20-24 to
12-20-23.
B. Motion to approve by Hannah, second by Rachelle. Motion passed.
V. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
a. None
VI. CORRESPONDENCE
a. Email request to Allen from Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies to be added
to the Family Services Directory. Will share during Family Services
Directory section of the agenda.
VII. REPORTS
A. Hawaii State CSW (HSCSW) liaison report
a. No meeting while the Executive Director position remains vacant.
b. Timeline for filling of that position is uncertain in light of departure of
DHS Director Betts.

B. Family Violence Interagency Committee (FVIC)
a. Shana attended the March 4 East Hawaii meeting.
i. April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, Sexual Assault
Awareness Month and National Crime Victims Rights Week
(21-27)
b. There will be signwaving in several locations, will share schedule
when updated.
c. Domestic Violence vigil may possibly be held on October 11.
d. House Bill 1601 was not supported by Office of the Prosecuting
Attorney and has since been deferred.
Vill. NEW BUSINESS
a. Real Women's Essay: Discussion on history of event and direction moving
forward. What is the will of the committee?
i. There wasn't enough time for this discussion. If the CSW would like
to discuss, the meeting time should be lengthened a little.
IX. OLD BUSINESS
A. Communications Sub-Committee reports
a. Family Services Directory
i. Review of curent directory information.
ii. Emma and Pennie shared information about Healthy
Mothers Healthy Babies. Their organization started in 1992
and they have now been on Hawaii Island for one year. They
have a Kona office and serve clients in the local clinic or
their homes. They provide routine well care services, receive
referrals from community providers and accept self-referrals.
Their mission is to assist the socially high-risk and medically
high-risk to package their care.
iii. CSW has agreed to add this program to the Family Services
Directory.
B. Outreach Sub-Committee report by Shana
a. Get Out the Vote 2024: Events, Candidate Discussion
i. April 6, 10:30am — Merrie Monarch parade. Shana has a
banner and shirts. They are recruiting students. There is
room for one more vehicle. Email Shana if you would like to
participate. Press release about Get Out and Vote to go out
day before the parade.
ii. Will be doing outreach at the Youth Jam on April 20.
iii. Will assist the disabled community with signing up to vote on
May 18.
b. CSW Community Survey Update
i. 74 responses electronically so far.
ii. 61 responses via hand written format.

iii. Shana will send responses for review.
c. Malama `Ohana Working Group (Act 86)
i. The goal is to have representation from every island, every
county.
C. Legislative/Advocacy
a. Legislative priorities — Women's Coalition Update
i. Shana will send out.
b. National Child Abuse Prevention —Training 2024 update by Lisa
i. Tabled to next meeting
c. Missing Murdered Native Hawaiian Women and Girls (MMNHWG)
i. Tabled to next meeting
X. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Organizations don't need to come to meeting to request to be added to the
Family Service Directory.
