I'm reaching out today with some thoughts on the renter limits that Director Zendo Kern recommended for Bill 121, specifically regarding the impact on families and groups traveling together. We've always believed that our home, and by extension, our community, should be a space where larger families or groups can gather and make memories. It's not uncommon for us to host extended families or groups of friends who are exploring the area together. The proposed limitation of two adults per bedroom, with an allowance for only two additional adults per rental unit, could significantly restrict the ability of these groups to stay together, impacting not just their experience but also our ability to operate inclusively. In my view, the one-size- fits-all approach doesn't quite fit the diverse needs of travelers or the unique attributes of our homes. Some properties, like ours, are designed with ample space, common areas, and outdoor living environments that comfortably accommodate larger groups. Moreover, imposing a rigid limit seems to overlook the fact that what families and groups value most is the opportunity to stay under one roof, sharing meals, stories, and experiences. It's these moments that turn a trip into a truly memorable journey. I am hopeful that you, as our representatives, can recommend a more flexible approach to renter limits that considers the size and layout of the property, as well as the nature of the group staying. The current draft outlines this well allowing for a case- by-case determination. This adjustment would not only support the diversity of family and group travel but also ensure that our regulations reflect the hospitality and warmth our community is known for. Thank you for taking the time to consider my perspective. I look forward to this new legislation if a few needed changes are made! Mahalo! Austin Boyce
