Subject: Short term rentals
Date: Monday,April 15,2024 9:48:46 PM
We are owners of a home on Kealakekua Bay in Napoopoo. Along with most of the homes in the neighborhood we
offer our home to visitors as a rental. This income we receive from rentals makes it possible for us to pay over
$33,000 annually in property tax to the county. If not for the rental income, there would be no way we could pay
such exorbitant property tax.We would be forced to sell the property which we have owned for nearly 40 years. We
are Hawaii residents and love using our home when it is not rented.
There are no hotels nearby and the Bay is a very popular attraction for visitors. It seems this area should be one of
the areas that allow short term rentals. Why on earth would they be forbidden 7 It generates TAT and excise tax on
top of the property taxes.A bill that forbade short term rentals would be counterproductive for the county and unfair
to the property owners.
Respectfully submitted,
