I am reaching out to share my opinion on the regulations being talked about for STRs. I set my life up around
having a vacation rental on my property 18 years ago and have loved the entire experience. Its has been such a
wonderful experience for myself AND my guests. I do no feel it has been taken into consideration just how many
people will NOT come to the island if they are forced into condos or resorts. Maybe this is what you want—to
make Hawaii only available to the very wealthy traveler and cut out the middle class,as that is what would happen.
It is a bit frustrating to have my tax dollars not recognized as being valuable but instead looked upon as though I am
a problem. I will not be renting my home as a long term rental. If that is what I wanted then that is what I would
do. I find it very odd that there has not been a"study"to see how many long term rentals came out of bill 108. I am
guessing VERY few. I feel there are other viable options to build AFFORDABLE long term rentals if you were
willing to support that. My cleaners and landscaper will also be affected deeply.
I respectfully urge you to take a hard look at these points and consider at the very least grandfathering those of
us that have doing this successfully for ourselves AND the State for many years. I am not opposed to some
regulation but what is being talked about is way over the top. It is very easy it seems to me to find the"bad actors"
and take them out of the equation.
