Subject: Strong Support for Hamakua Guesthouse Special Permit (PL-SPP-2023-000052)
I am writing to express my strongest support for the special permit application submitted by
the Hamakua Guesthouse (PL-SPP-2023-000052). As the owner of the Hive Cafe in nearby
Honomu, my business has directly benefited from the presence of the Hamakua Guesthouse
for many years.
The Hamakua Guesthouse is more than just a place to stay; it's a staple in our community. It
attracts visitors who frequent local businesses like mine, bringing vital economic activity to
Honomu.
Should the special permit be denied and the Hamakua Guesthouse be forced to close, it
would have a significant negative impact on my cafe and other local businesses. Many of
our customers are guests staying at the guesthouse, and their absence would be sorely felt.
Beyond the economic benefits, the Hamakua Guesthouse plays a role in the social fabric of
our community. It fosters a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, introducing them to the
unique charm of Honomu and the surrounding area.
I urge the Windward Planning Commission to approve the special permit application and
allow the Hamakua Guesthouse to continue its valuable contribution to our community.
