I am asking the planning committee to reject these applications. The proposal is a greedy idea by a developer and not in the best interest of the community. Can you imagine what might happen if Waimea's Agricultural land was all able to be rezoned to commercial land? The entire fabric of our community will change. The proposal of this development sets a dangerous precedent that other Ag lots might be able to be rezoned to commercial use. I own a business, CrossFit AllStar LLC just 300 meters down the road from this proposed development. We're located at 64-1032 Mamalahoa Hwy. Each day in the morning between 6- 9am and afternoons from about 3:30-6pm it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to turn left out of my business in order to go home. I usually sit for many minutes waiting for an opening in traffic which never comes. I usually end up turning right, then make a U-turn down Kinohou Street, then head home. There is SO MUCH TRAFFIC. On top of that. I ride my bike and walk SO MUCH in this town because I like to get exercise, and it's simply not safe. There are not enough sidewalks or bike lanes. If you add more commercial activity to the area of town proposed, it will become even more of a danger to pedestrians. I strongly oppose it. I am writing to oppose the change of zoning being requested by Kaupulehu Land LLC from agricultural to residential and commercial.The infrastructure here is not able to handle more traffic than we already have. I live a few hundred feet from the property described and I drive on Mamalahoa Hwy.on a daily basis. It can be extremely difficult to make a left turn onto Mamalahoa not just for me but for anyone trying to come out of any one the the side roads,whether it's a business or a residential street.From Kamamalu on going towards Hamakua,there are not enough merge lanes.Just turn lanes that are not always helpful.I've seen quite a few close calls.I've also seen drivers illegally use the turn lane as a passing lane. The traffic can also be a mess if there's an accident,road work,or tree trimming. It's bad enough at pan hang time. I feel that until the infrastructure can be improved,the change of zoning should not be approved. Thank you for your time.
