Aloha, our names are Boots and Cheryl Lupenui and we live in the Waimea area
and we OPPOSE all applications submitted by Kaupulehu Land LLC.
There is no reason for more commercial space in Waimea and even if there was, the
proposed location would be a very poor choice since it is a point in Waimea town
where the traffic is already a massive burden.
There is also the issue of turning more of our precious agricultural land into
commercial or residential lots. For years Waimea has been subjected to a rush of
development and we are at a point where this town cannot sustain more loss of its
fertile agricultural spaces. We hold out hope that Waimea can survive with its
identity intact, a place that remembers what it was like when its residents were
connected to the land and shared its bountiful gifts with their neighbors. We would
not want to explain to our grandchildren why this all disappeared in our time and
how we ignored what we knew to be the right thing to do.
For these reasons we implore you, members of the planning committee, to reject
these applications.
