III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES for March 20, 2024
a. Christina motioned to approve the minutes. Shana second.

b. Small corrections in Suzanna`s last name in Roll Call and Item III. change
ballots to "registration forms" Christina motion to approve minutes with
corrections, Shana second. All approve.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT
A. Approval of Treasurer's Report— No report as there have not been any
new expenditures.
V. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC - None
VI. CORRESPONDENCE
a. Message from Keaukaha Elementary School about an upcoming
Community Resource Fair
b. Post sign waving emails
VII. REPORTS
A. Hawaii State CSW (HSCSW) liaison report
a. Ryan Yamane is new liaison in the DHS Director position. Jennifer
will reach out to the State CSW to get updates on the Executive
Director position.
B. Family Violence Interagency Committee (FVIC) — No report. Suzanna will
send an email to get an update on FIVC meetings
VIII. NEW BUSINESS
a. Continued discussion: Real Women's Essay: Discussion on history of
event and direction moving forward. What is the will of the committee?
Overview: At the beginning of the Academic year (September), send out
communication to English teachers with December deadline. Finalist
selected in February. Luncheon in March for awards. Judges included
committee members, council members, mayor's office, etc. Varying
categories. Winning essays typed out and bound in a book for all winners.
Gathering prizes, ordering food, securing location, etc. Minimum cost is
about $4500. Farrah shared past year winners and booklet. Committee
sees value in the essay contest; next steps would be to form a group and
plan how this could take place — essay vs. media through Na Leo. Tabled
to next meeting. ACTION ITEM: discuss proposed project, continue or

make adjustments. Be ready to vote at next meeting. Create a Permitted
Interaction Group, with one opportunity to report back.

i. Request to laminate the surveys to continue gathering data
c. Malama `Ohana Working Group (Act 86)
i. Coming to Hilo to get public input on the Child Welfare
System, flyer is forthcoming. Open to the public — May 31 at
Keaukaha Elementary School, 4:30-6:30p
C. Legislative/Advocacy
a. Legislative priorities — Women's Coalition /Women`s Caucus
Update
i. Some key bills got passed that our committee in partnership
with Women`s Coalition and Women`s Caucus supported.
Congratulations to the Ma`i Movement for getting funded to
supply products in all public restrooms.
b. National Child Abuse Prevention — Training 2024 update by Lisa

i. Well attended by the Public Services and Human Services
Academy at Waiakea High School. Presentors shared a lot
of community based statistics and resources.
c. Missing Murdered Native Hawaiian Women and Girls (MMNHWG)
i. Jennifer will be requesting information on the MMNHWG
taskforce
d. Suggestion: Invite and call upon the Prosecuting Attorneys Office
or Women`s Caucus to attend our meetings to share legislative
updates and community issues that our committee can support or
mobilize on
X. ANNOUNCEMENTS
a. Reminder: 2 members can meet to plan, but no decisions can be made
b. Elena will submit her resignation at the end of this fiscal year.
