TMK:1-6-003:081 & 129,Puna,Hawaii This letter will respond to recent comments received from Nwah, regarding the above-described rezoning application. The Applicant is appreciative of the comments conveyed by the charter school regarding the effects of the proposed subdivision upon its students, staff and programs. The Applicant recognizes that the proposed subdivision will generate additional traffic along the Old Keaau- Pahoa Road and other connecting roadways in the immediate area, but not so much so as to debilitate existing traffic conditions within the area, even during peak hours. The Old Keaau-Pahoa Road that provides primary access to the school is a dead-end government road that once was the primary arterial -Pahoa Bypass. The proposed 23-lot subdivision will bring families closer commercial retail and personal services available in the area, as well as the varied educational wah We note that the Police Department offered their statement thatThe Police Department does not anticipate any impact to traffic and/or public safety concerns as a result of the requested change of zone.As shown on the aerial image on the next page, the intersection of the Old Keaau--PahoaBypass is fully signalized, as is its government-maintained roadways. The Old Keaau-Pahoa Road segment that serves the school does intersect with the remaining segment of this same road that was -PahoaBypass. This intersection is unsignalized but with very good sight distance. There may be some congestion at this unsignalized intersection during peak hours, but the addition of only 23 peak hour trips from the project is not anticipated to significantly affect traffic movements through this intersection.
