To whom it may concern,
I am opposed to Item #4 because I support Council Member Cindy Evans' telecommunications
ordinance, Bill 194, which has already been submitted to you. The new ordinance proposed by
the Director favors the telecommunications industry too heavily and lacks sufficient
safeguards for our community.
It grants almost unrestricted authority to Planning and Telecom, without input from other
agencies or experts. The approval process is expedited to just 30 days, there are no protections
against 5G small cells, and it permits the installation of towers at schools, playgrounds, and
daycare centers.
I urge you to consider Council Member Evans' ordinance, which sets out clear and achievable
requirements. It strikes a necessary balance between protecting public health, safety, and
welfare and meeting the needs of the technology sector.
