I oppose Item #4 Planning Director's Ordinance it is too sympathetic to the
telecommunications industry with not enough protections for our community. It gives
almost total power to Planning and Telecom with no other agencies or experts
involved! It rushes the approval process to only 30 days! It has no provisions to
protect us against 5G small cells! It freely allows towers at schools, playgrounds and
day care centers! This technology is known to be harmful and we as citizens need
to have input. We do not want to be railroaded into something because of the
financial benefit to the big tech industry, similar to what has happened with big
pharma!!
It also will lower property values without the owners having a say in the matter.
Council Member Cindy Evans submitted a different ordinance (Bill 194) put through
on August 20th, that counters it and protects Big Island communities! We support
this bill. She is our elected official- PLEASE respect her bill and do not ignore her
work on this.
As elected officials, you serve the people, so please consider Council Member Evans
proposed ordinance which has clear, attainable requirements. It is the perfect balance
between the health, safety and welfare of the people and the needs of the tech
industry.
